Word Categories

A funding model where people voluntarily give undefined amounts of money to an artist to fund their work.

Donation differs from patronage and micropatronage in that there is no ongoing relationship between the donor and the artist.

The donor is free to donate any number of times, on any schedule, and in any amount, with no expectation of future donations.

Typically, the artist will ask for donations at specific times, such as when a person accesses or downloads the artist's work, at the end of a work (e.g., in the back matter of a book), or during a donation drive.
