writing process

The part of the overall publishing process where the manuscript is created, refined, and finalized.

Each author approaches the writing process differently.

However, the following phases (listed in order) are typical to many authors: book planning; first draft of manuscript; beta-reading, critique, and substantive editing, all leading to additional drafts; stylistic editing or copy editing; final draft.

The counterpart to the writing process is the publishing process, which includes e-book production, publication, and marketing/promotion.
