flush left

Word Categories

In typesetting, an alignment where the text of a paragraph is flush with the left margin and ragged on the right side.

Flush left is the most comfortable alignment for reading left-to-right scripts (such as most European languages).

This is because flush left text maintains even letter width, letter spacing, and word spacing, along with a common starting location for each line of text.

In flush left alignment, the first line of a paragraph may be indented, or paragraphs may be separated by vertical space.
